Catherine Bailey Philbin - wife of Patrick Philbin -
mother to Michael Philbin
It is believed
that the family originally came from County Mayo, Ireland. They did
live for a while in Birmingham, England on Buck Street. (approx 1857
to 1872)
While in
Birmingham someone in the family worked as a Taylor. There is a small
leather Taylor's book with names and measurements. The latest date in
the book is July 13, 1857. One of the earliest entries stands out because
it is so unusual. near the beginning of a book filled with measurements
there is a full page of an unusual meeting - as if it was of some importance.
It talks of an altercation between James Sheridan and the Lodge of United
Brothers.
Lodge
of United Brothers - transcript
When the
Philbin family came to America, they eventually settled in the area
of Lehigh, Oklahoma. There are some records of them also living in nearby
String Town.
It is told
in the family that they were school teachers in Oklahoma. There is a
hand held school bell that has been handed down.
